A 1950s Canada Immigration Story
This book retells the experience of many of the immigrants who came to Canada in the 1950s. Anna is five years old and makes the journey to Canada from the Netherlands. After fourteen days by ship and four days by train, Anna’s family settles in Southern Alberta. Hard work and determination are needed to succeed in Canada, a land of beauty and opportunity.
Julia Sinke and her husband, Gerrit, live in Picture Butte, Alberta. They have four children. Julia is an Educational Assistant who is passionate about Language Arts. She loves this beautiful country, Canada. Her great-grandparents immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in the spring of 1950.
Illustrator Abigayle Sinke is Julia’s daughter. She is a hairstylist. Her hobbies include painting and drawing. She enjoys hunting with her fiancé.
Illustrator Jenny VanHerk is Julia’s aunt. She lives with her husband near Fort Macleod, Alberta. She has ten children and three grandchildren. Her artistic talent shines through each of her projects.
