Set in the 1st century AD, The Cross Triumphant provides a fictional retelling of the dreadful events that led to the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70.

The story begins with a young Jewish Levite named Phannias. As a Nazirite, Phannias vows to spend his life in service in the temple. Under the tutelage of a rabbi, he learns every letter of the law in preparation for holy service. At the same time, he hears rumors that perhaps the Messiah has already come. He encounters certain “Nazarenes” who worship and follow Jesus Christ. As the conflict between the Romans and Jews intensifies, Phannias grows in his conviction about the identity of Jesus Christ and, in time, puts his trust in the promised Messiah. Phannias learns that he is unable to produce his own righteousness, but instead, that “Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes” (Rom. 10:3-4).

Author of the award-winning Titus: Comrade of the Cross, Florence Kingsley authored her epic The Cross Triumphant around the beginning of the 20th century.
